This week, Google will be rolled out their new, and biggest change to its search system since RankBrain

BERT will be the new search language that will help better understands the nuances and context of words in the English language, to better match search queries with more accurate results. It will soon roll out in other languages as well.

What does this mean for RankBrain?

BERT does not replace RankBrain. In fact, it is more of an additional feature to enhance analyses on search queries and content, that will better rank more relevant sites to match a user’s search query or website content.

Not only is the release of BERT on of the biggest leap forward in the past 5 years of Search, but since its release, it has also already impacted around 10% of queries. It is advised to check your search traffic next week to understand how your website may or may not have been impacted by this update.

Unfortunately, SEO’s cannot optimise for BERT just yet, so don’t fall for those pesky internet bloggers telling you how to optimise your site for BERT.
